A man initially suspected in an acid attack on a Delhi University student has bravely shared his ordeal, stating he was falsely implicated. He revealed that the entire incident was a carefully crafted conspiracy by the victim’s own family to trap him.
“I was wrongly framed. The whole thing was a conspiracy to get me into trouble,” the man told PTI news agency. The alleged attack occurred on Sunday in the Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi. During the time of the incident, the man asserted he was miles away at his workplace.
“I was working in Karol Bagh that day. Around 7:30 PM, the police contacted me to inform me about the case,” he recounted.
The Delhi Police investigation uncovered a shocking truth: the student’s father, identified as Aqeel Khan, along with the student’s uncle and brother, had orchestrated the attack. They used a chemical substance on their daughter’s hand and bag in Ashok Vihar, fleeing on a motorcycle to mislead investigators.
It was also revealed that Khan was later arrested in connection with a separate rape case filed by the accused man’s wife. The man’s wife had previously accused Khan of harassment and blackmail, reporting that he persistently contacted her and sent her videos.
Recalling a past conflict, the man mentioned a fight between their families on September 29, 2021, where he intervened to protect his wife. Although the police mediated a compromise at the time, threats continued.
Following a thorough review of CCTV footage and location data, which confirmed the man was at his Karol Bagh workplace during the incident, the Delhi Police have completely exonerated him. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest), Bhisham Singh, stated that all evidence, including witness testimonies from his workplace, supported his innocence. The man expressed his full faith in the Delhi Police and his belief in justice.
The investigation into the conspiracy and the misuse of acid attack charges is ongoing.
