This Deepavali, the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department managed a total of 44 fire incidents across the state. Out of these, 18 calls originated from within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, indicating a relatively controlled festive period.
According to reports from the Fire Control Room, the incidents comprised 38 minor fires, three medium-severity incidents, and one serious call. The medium-level fires were reported in Chandulal Baradari, Yakutpura, and Mahabubabad. The single serious fire occurred at an industrial facility in Sangareddy, though initial investigations confirm this incident was due to a short circuit and had no connection to fireworks.
A department official happily confirmed, “We’re pleased to report that no major fire incidents directly caused by crackers were recorded this year.” This is a notable improvement compared to Deepavali 2024, when the department handled 33 fire calls, all of which were attributed to fireworks, including three significant incidents. One such event saw a third-floor apartment in Himayat Nagar completely gutted. Fortunately, despite the considerable property damage in past incidents, no serious injuries have been reported.
