R.D. Wilson, also known as Sarath Chandra, the newly appointed chairman of the Telugu and Sanskrit Academy, has declared that the institution will dedicate its full resources to protecting and promoting the Telugu language, anticipating and addressing the challenges it may encounter in the future.
Addressing an assembly of esteemed poets and writers at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on Tuesday, Mr. Wilson shared his personal journey. Despite having the chance to pursue a career in medicine, his profound love for literature steered him towards crafting novels, short stories, and plays—works he believes have significantly contributed to societal enrichment.
He further reminisced about his time as a journalist, where he leveraged his platform to highlight critical social issues and foster public awareness. Emphasizing the intrinsic beauty of Telugu, he stated that its essence lies in its vibrant spoken form and rich literary tradition, transcending any boundaries of caste or religion. He underlined that literature serves as a crucial historical record, urging collective action for its preservation.
Wilson also made commitments to the academy’s staff, pledging to address and resolve their concerns. Additionally, he vowed to implement initiatives that would enhance and expand services offered to students.
During the event, several writers and poets lauded Mr. Wilson for his indelible contributions to the literary realm and for championing the rights of marginalized communities. They acknowledged his powerful voice, expressed through his writings and newspaper contributions, which consistently brought various societal issues to the forefront.
