In a significant breakthrough, Rajasthan Police have apprehended a former National Security Guard (NSG) commando, identified as the alleged mastermind behind a sprawling cannabis smuggling network. This individual, who bravely served during the 26/11 anti-terror operation in Mumbai, was arrested on Thursday, October 3, 2025.
The former commando, Bajrang Singh, was taken into custody on Wednesday night in Ratangarh, Churu district, as confirmed by Inspector General of Police Vikas Kumar.
Singh is suspected of trafficking a substantial quantity of ‘ganja’ (cannabis), estimated at 200 kg, from Telangana and Odisha into Rajasthan. The arrest is a major blow to the illicit drug trade in the region.
Originally from Rajasthan’s Sikar district, the alleged “drug kingpin” had a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head, IGP Kumar revealed.
The successful ‘Operation Gaanjaney’ was meticulously executed by the State’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), culminating in Singh’s capture.
Officials report that Bajrang Singh concluded his formal education after Class 10 and initially joined the Border Security Force (BSF) for a brief period before his discharge. He then went on to serve for seven years as an NSG commando.
Notably, he was an active participant in the 2008 anti-terror operation during the Mumbai serial blasts, commonly known as the 26/11 terror attack, showcasing a stark contrast to his alleged current activities.
IGP Kumar also mentioned that in 2021, Singh harbored political aspirations, attempting to launch his wife’s career in local elections. Though unsuccessful, this endeavor allegedly expanded his local network and influence.
Police investigations indicate that Singh forged connections with criminal elements across Odisha and Rajasthan, reportedly leveraging his standing in his village to facilitate narcotics and even terror-linked activities.
For nearly two months, the ATS and ANTF teams maintained rigorous surveillance on Singh. Despite his cunning attempts to evade capture by using fake mobile identities and seeking refuge in remote villages, a combination of sophisticated technical intelligence and crucial ground-level information ultimately led to his apprehension in Churu.
“This operation underscores weeks of meticulous planning and vital intelligence sharing. The arrest of a seasoned operative like Bajrang marks a crucial victory in dismantling the terror-narcotics nexus operating within Rajasthan,” emphasized the IGP.
