Good news for Dasara revelers! South Western Railway (SWR) is all set to launch 51 special train services to accommodate the significant surge in passenger traffic expected during the upcoming Dasara festival. This initiative aims to ensure a smooth and comfortable travel experience for everyone.
According to a statement from the Divisional Commercial Manager in Mysuru, these special services comprise a mix of 11 unreserved trains, 27 express specials, and also include 3 temporary stoppages, 2 temporary route extensions, and 8 extensions of existing train schedules.
These additional trains will significantly enhance travel options, connecting Mysuru with vital destinations like Bengaluru, Belagavi, Yeshwanthpur, Shivamogga Town, Vijayapura, Arsikere, Karaikkudi, Madgaon, Ramanathapuram, Chamarajanagar, Talaguppa, and Tirunelveli.
Reflecting on previous years, the Mysuru Railway Division saw an impressive 6.91 lakh passengers during last year’s Dasara, averaging 69,000 daily. On the main Dasara day alone, the division handled a massive 1.10 lakh passengers.
With these new additions, the South Western Railway anticipates an even greater turnout this year, reinforcing its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and pleasant travel experiences throughout the grand festivities.
To manage the crowds effectively, SWR has deployed 70 dedicated staff members. They will be further supported by over 150 personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), with operations monitored by 50 CCTV cameras.
Passenger assistance is a priority, with three ‘May I Help You’ kiosks established: two in the circulating area and one on Platform No. 6. Additionally, 20 extra staff have been brought in from the Bengaluru and Hubbali divisions to assist with ticketing and checking duties. Scouts and Guides will also be on hand to help regulate crowds and facilitate passenger movement.
To maintain seamless passenger flow, four Travelling Ticket Examiners will be stationed at each Foot Over Bridge and at both subway entrances for ticket verification and crowd control. Staff equipped with walkie-talkies will ensure coordinated efforts across security and other departments. Escalators will be continuously manned by electrical and security personnel to guarantee uninterrupted service. The railway has also coordinated with various State government agencies, including ambulance, fire, and police services, for comprehensive support.
Special ticketing arrangements have been implemented to alleviate congestion. This includes relocating one Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) near the IRCTC integrated refreshment room and setting up four pre-printed ticket counters – three at the main entry and one at the second entry point.
For added convenience, two more ticket counters are being opened within the Divisional Office compound. Passengers can also expect clear display boards and banners providing essential information about train services.
On October 2nd, the day of the grand Jumboo Savari, which marks the culmination of the Dasara festivities, buggy services will be temporarily suspended. Furthermore, parcel-loading activities will cease from 2 p.m. onwards to prioritize smooth passenger handling. South Western Railway, Mysuru Division, urges all passengers to cooperate with staff and adhere to instructions to ensure a safe, comfortable, and trouble-free journey during the festive season.
