In a disturbing turn of events in Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh, a 25-year-old Dalit man has been brutally assaulted and shamefully forced to consume urine twice. The incident, which occurred on Monday, has led to the arrest of three people, with police confirming the development on Tuesday. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
Initial findings suggest that the primary accused targeted the victim after the latter ceased working as his driver. This personal dispute appears to be the catalyst for the horrific abuse.
According to reports and the victim’s statement, he was abducted from Gwalior on Monday by three individuals and transported to Bhind. During the journey, he was subjected to physical assault and forced to drink urine. Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Pathak stated that a case has been registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, along with relevant sections of the BNS pertaining to kidnapping, assault, and inhuman treatment.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sonu Barua, Alok Sharma, and Chhotu Ojha. The victim, a resident of Akutpura village in the Surpura police station area, is currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital.
The victim recounted his ordeal, stating he was taken from his in-laws’ home in Gwalior and driven to Bhind in an SUV. He was beaten with a plastic pipe and, at one point, forced to drink urine from a bottle. Later, in Akutpura village, he was allegedly tied with an iron chain and forced to drink urine for a second time.
A police officer revealed that the victim previously worked as a driver for the main accused, Sonu Barua, a resident of Datawali village. The victim’s decision to quit recently is believed to be the motive behind the targeted attack.
This incident follows a series of similar disturbing events reported in the state. Recently, a Dalit youth was allegedly beaten and urinated upon in Katni district for opposing illegal mining. In May, a group allegedly kidnapped a person from Guna district, forced them to drink urine, and paraded them in women’s clothing. Earlier this year, a man in Ujjain was reportedly beaten, forced to drink urine, and made to wear a garland of shoes after eloping with a married woman. A viral video from July 2023 also sparked national outrage, showing a man urinating on a tribal individual in Sidhi district.
