In a significant political development, D. Raja was unanimously re-elected as the national general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) during its 25th party congress held on Thursday, September 25, 2025. This decision reaffirms the party’s confidence in his leadership.
Alongside Raja’s re-election, the CPI also unveiled a new leadership structure, including an 11-member national secretariat and a larger 31-member executive committee, poised to guide the party’s future initiatives.
During the congress, a series of pivotal resolutions were adopted. Notably, the party advocated for the resumption of trade with Pakistan via key border routes such as Attari-Wagah in Punjab. Another significant resolution, championed by CPI Punjab state secretary Bant Brar, called for the immediate release of all prisoners who have completed their respective sentences.
The CPI’s political resolution emphasized its commitment to intensifying ideological and theoretical battles against the BJP-RSS. Looking ahead, the party declared its strategic objective for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal: to secure victories for Left, democratic, and secular alliances. In Kerala, the party vowed to work diligently to ensure the triumph of the Left front.
Furthermore, the congress highlighted growing concerns over national issues like escalating unemployment and the deteriorating state of the education sector. The CPI strongly urged for unified action among Left and democratic forces to counter what it described as rising centralizing and authoritarian tendencies within the country.
