The Communist Party of India (CPI) proudly announced the re-election of D. Raja as its national general secretary on Thursday, September 25, 2025. This significant decision was made during the party’s 25th Congress, currently underway in Chandigarh.
Alongside Raja’s re-election, the CPI leadership also unveiled its new national secretariat, a dynamic 11-member body that includes prominent figures such as Amarjeet Kaur, B.C. Kango, Prakash Babu, Pallab Veckat Reddy, Girish Sharma, and Ram Kishan Panda. Additionally, a comprehensive 31-member Executive Committee was formed to steer the party’s future initiatives.
The 25th Congress proved to be a pivotal event, with the CPI passing several crucial resolutions. Among these, a key demand was for the immediate restoration of trade relations with Pakistan, specifically advocating for the reopening of routes like the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab. Another humanitarian resolution, championed by CPI Punjab state secretary Bant Brar, called for the release of all prisoners who have already served their full sentences.
Outlining its future political trajectory, the CPI’s adopted resolution emphasized a heightened ideological and theoretical struggle against the BJP-RSS. The party also reaffirmed its commitment to the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, where it will actively work to ensure the success of Left, democratic, and secular alliances. In Kerala, the party expressed strong determination to secure a resounding victory for the Left Front.
Furthermore, the CPI voiced significant concern regarding India’s escalating unemployment crisis and the noticeable decline in the education sector. To counter what it described as ‘centralizing and authoritarian tendencies,’ the party issued a powerful call for greater unity among Left and democratic forces nationwide.
