Weather Update: The severe cyclonic storm Montha has weakened into a cyclonic storm as it moved over the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for several districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, anticipating heavy rainfall.
Tragically, the cyclone’s impact was felt directly in Andhra Pradesh, where a woman lost her life in Makanagudem village, Konaseema district. Strong winds uprooted a palmyra tree that subsequently fell on her, according to local officials. The Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall on Tuesday.
In a separate development, the Delhi government’s efforts to create artificial rain through cloud seeding appear to have failed. Two trials conducted on Tuesday in various parts of the capital, including Burari, North Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar, and Badli, did not yield the desired results. These trials were part of the government’s ongoing measures to combat the city’s worsening air pollution levels, in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Majhi, has stated that the state is not currently under significant threat from Cyclone Montha. Following a review of the situation, he confirmed that precautionary measures, including the relocation of people to safer areas, have been implemented effectively, with all necessary arrangements in place at the shelters.
