Police Inspector Brindha has been suspended from her duties at the Ramanatham police station in Cuddalore district following accusations of serious misconduct. She is alleged to have unlawfully retained money confiscated from a theft suspect.
The incident began on September 8 when Ramanatham police arrested 39-year-old Prabhakaran from Perambalur district. He was apprehended on charges of stealing a three-sovereign gold chain from a 60-year-old woman, whom he allegedly robbed after offering her a ride on his motorcycle. The police, using CCTV footage, quickly identified and arrested Prabhakaran within a few hours.
During his arrest, Inspector Brindha recovered the three sovereigns of gold jewelry and an additional ₹75,000 in cash from the accused. However, she reportedly failed to properly document or account for the seized cash, instead keeping it for herself.
Following a formal complaint, an internal investigation was launched, which confirmed the allegations against the Inspector. Further inquiries also revealed that Inspector Brindha was facing accusations of being involved in illicit activities, specifically conniving with sand smugglers.
Based on the findings and recommendations from Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Villupuram Range) E.S. Uma issued an order for Inspector Brindha’s immediate suspension.
