The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State Secretariat confidently declared on Friday that the growing support from the Nair Service Society (NSS) and SNDP Yogam, particularly concerning the Global Ayyappa Sanghamam, significantly strengthens the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) path to victory in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
While not explicitly naming the influential Hindu social organizations, Party State secretary M.V. Govindan highlighted at a press conference that the increasing embrace of the LDF’s development and welfare initiatives across various societal segments is undeniable. He believes this momentum will secure a historic third consecutive win for the front in 2026.
Govindan criticized the Congress for failing to grasp the shifting political currents in the State. He stated, “Even sections of society who previously held reservations about the LDF’s agenda are now recognizing the Pinarayi Vijayan government’s genuine commitment and are joining the ruling front in substantial numbers.”
Responding to accusations from the Congress that the Sanghamam was merely an LDF electoral ploy to win over Hindus alienated by the government’s actions regarding Sabarimala customs in 2018, Mr. Govindan asserted that the Congress remains stuck in the past.
“The Sabarimala women’s entry issue is a closed chapter. The State has progressed. The Congress regrettably fails to acknowledge that change is the only constant in politics. The party refuses to accept current realities,” he emphasized.
He also refuted Congress’s claims that the CPI(M) was inadvertently empowering the Sangh Parivar by allegedly disparaging minorities and elevating Hindu social organization leaders known for making inflammatory remarks against minority communities.
Mr. Govindan clarified that the CPI(M) does not discriminate among people based on their religion, caste, community, or region. He added, “The LDF seeks the votes of all people to build a modern Kerala, regardless of their personal affiliations.”
Furthermore, he expressed solidarity with the Indian Union Muslim League-sponsored rally in support of the besieged people of Palestine, noting the expected participation of the Palestinian Ambassador to India.
Mr. Govindan accused the BJP of succumbing to the influence of U.S. imperialism. He stated, “The Central government has reduced India to a subordinate partner of the U.S. and an enabler of Israel’s aggressive genocide in Gaza.”
The CPI(M) State Secretariat also condemned Israel’s recent attack on Qatar, describing it as an egregious violation of national sovereignty. Govindan warned that if India were to endorse Israel’s actions, it would risk being ostracized by the international community of secular democratic nations.
