The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is demanding strict measures against a private engineering college in Chittoor after a third-year student, Nandini, reportedly attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor. This tragic incident is linked to alleged harassment by college authorities regarding fee payments.
Vada Gangaraju, the CPI(M) district secretary, holds the college management responsible and is calling for a comprehensive government investigation. He stated that this event highlights the immense pressure and psychological distress students often endure in private educational institutions.
Gangaraju further alleged that even students admitted under government quotas are being compelled to pay substantial amounts, accusing private colleges of disregarding official regulations without consequence. He insists that the government must ensure justice for Nandini and compel the college to cover all her medical and educational expenses until she fully recovers.
The college management confirmed the incident occurred on Friday night and stated that the student was promptly taken to the District hospital.
