A significant political controversy has erupted in Karnataka, leading the Bengaluru police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against two prominent BJP leaders, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and Mysuru MLA Srivathsa. The action stems from accusations that the leaders made highly objectionable comments targeting the Kuruba community while voicing their opposition to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The FIR was filed subsequent to a complaint lodged by a farmer hailing from Hubballi. The complainant alleged that the two BJP leaders, in their public dissent against the demand for Scheduled Tribe status for the Kuruba community, uttered remarks deemed insulting to the community. Consequently, the Vidhana Soudha police have booked Narayanaswamy and Srivathsa under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses offenses related to statements inciting public mischief.
