In a striking statement that could reshape Kerala’s political alignments, prominent Congress leader and MP K. Sudhakaran announced that the Congress party would “100% accept” the Communist Party of India (CPI) should it choose to sever ties with the Left Democratic Front (LDF). This offer stems from the CPI’s growing dissent over the controversial PM SHRI project, signaling deep-seated tensions within the ruling coalition.
Addressing reporters in Kannur this Monday (October 27, 2025), Mr. Sudhakaran emphasized that the CPI’s firm stance points to “something serious within the LDF.” He critiqued the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for its apparent failure to bring its key alliance partner on board, warning that these unresolved issues could ultimately trigger a split in the government.
“When critical decisions are made without proper consultation with alliance partners, it’s only natural for dissenting parties to consider distancing themselves. In such a scenario, the CPI might find it unsustainable to remain within the LDF. Genuine unity among ruling partners is absolutely vital for effective and stable governance,” Sudhakaran elaborated.
Congress Reorganization Underway
When questioned about the internal workings of the Congress party, Mr. Sudhakaran confirmed that preparations for the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) meetings are progressing as planned. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing reorganization efforts, dismissing criticisms regarding the party’s structure. “Everything necessary is being put into motion. Would any political party genuinely appoint 140 secretaries? Such discussions lack substance,” he concluded.
