Senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Thursday voiced significant concern regarding the operational disconnect between the Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister’s Office in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that this lack of coordination is directly contributing to the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.
Mir highlighted the issue of what he termed a ‘dual power structure,’ arguing that it has ‘created confusion and hardships for the public.’ He explained, ‘On one side, there is the L-G, and on the other side, there is the CM. The common man is suffering as both act on their own without concern for people’s difficulties.’
Though the Congress allied with the ruling National Conference (NC) for the 2024 Assembly elections, they did not join the government.
Mir also expressed regret over Jammu & Kashmir’s downgrade to a Union Territory (UT) in 2019. ‘No State in the country has faced what J&K went through on August 5, 2019. It was downgraded from a State to a UT. The move has left people with the biggest pain,’ he lamented.
He further reminded that the Centre had pledged to restore statehood following the Assembly elections in J&K. ‘Elections did happen a year ago. No initiative has been taken to restore Statehood,’ he concluded.
