Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan recently announced that Coimbatore is slated to receive an increase in its train services very soon, bringing improved connectivity to the bustling city.
During a recent felicitation ceremony hosted by the Coimbatore Citizens Forum, Mr. Radhakrishnan revealed key discussions he held with Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. He had specifically advocated for two crucial additions: a high-speed Vande Bharat train connecting Ernakulam to Bengaluru, with essential stops in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, and Salem; and a daily service between Coimbatore and Ranchi to better serve the large workforce from Jharkhand and other northern states. Good news for residents – both these services are expected to be operational shortly.
Emphasizing the critical link between infrastructure and economic prosperity, Mr. Radhakrishnan cited Bengaluru’s impressive growth, which was significantly propelled by its airport development. He asserted that the expansion of Coimbatore’s international airport and the introduction of more international flights are not just desirable but essential for the city’s advancement. “I am fully committed to supporting these vital initiatives,” he stated.
Reflecting on his past roles, Mr. Radhakrishnan highlighted his impactful contributions to the coir industry as the former Coir Board chairman and to the textile sector during his tenure as Coimbatore MP. He proudly noted that his ascension to the Vice-Presidency has brought immense honor to the Tamil community, Tamil Nadu, and the vibrant Coimbatore region.
Echoing the city’s aspirations, M. Karthikeyan, President of the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, urged the Vice-President to champion several key infrastructure projects with relevant ministers. These include the ambitious 120-km industrial corridor between Karur and Coimbatore, the widening of the 22-km Neelambur and Madukkarai bypass, continued expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport, and the eagerly awaited Coimbatore Metro Rail project.
M. Manickam, Chairman and Managing Director of Sakthi Sugars, praised Mr. Radhakrishnan for his diligent work ethic and dedication to empowering youth. He underscored the Vice-President’s support as indispensable for fostering robust growth across the western districts of the state.
Rajesh B. Lund, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, reiterated the positive impact of the Vice-President’s commitment. He stated that Mr. Radhakrishnan’s assurances of support for Coimbatore’s agricultural and industrial sectors are a promising sign for the region’s future prosperity.
