In a significant push for public welfare and development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a series of new government services and infrastructure projects this Saturday, November 1, 2025, from the Secretariat in Chennai. The wide-ranging initiatives included the deployment of new ‘108’ ambulance services, the launch of crucial infrastructure projects across various districts, and the formal distribution of government job appointment orders to newly recruited personnel.
Highlighting the commitment to emergency healthcare, the Chief Minister officially flagged off 87 brand-new ‘108’ ambulances, an investment totaling ₹18.9 crore, dedicated to serving the public. These additions, overseen by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, bolster the existing statewide fleet to an impressive 1,353 ‘108’ ambulances. This comprehensive network comprises 977 basic life-support units, 307 advanced life-support units, and 65 specialized neonatal ambulances, ensuring rapid medical response during critical situations.
The impact of these vital services is undeniable, with an official press release stating that since May 2021, over 8.5 million individuals, including pregnant women, accident victims, and other emergency patients, have received crucial assistance from the ‘108’ ambulance system. Furthermore, the two-wheeler ambulance service has aided more than 160,000 people, while neonatal services have supported over 95,000 infants. Notably, nearly 430,000 beneficiaries from tribal regions have also accessed these life-saving facilities.
Beyond healthcare, the Chief Minister also inaugurated extensive road development projects undertaken by the Highways Department across eight districts—Erode, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvallur, Tirunelveli, Ariyalur, and Madurai—with a collective expenditure of ₹1,177.15 crore. Additionally, two new road overbridges, costing ₹71.09 crore, were unveiled in Vellore district, further improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
In a boost to employment, Mr. Stalin personally handed over appointment orders to 36 candidates selected as Technical Assistants (Civil) for the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, and to 24 individuals appointed as Surveyors/Assistant Draftsmen within the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, all selected through the rigorous Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission process.
Community welfare was also addressed with the Chief Minister distributing land allocation orders for the establishment of burial grounds for Christian communities in Virudhunagar, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvallur, Perambalur, and Sivaganga districts. Similar orders were issued for Muslim burial grounds in Virudhunagar, Theni, Tiruvallur, Perambalur, and Sivaganga districts.
The event also had a cultural dimension, featuring the release of ‘Siri Siri Crazy,’ a new compilation of plays by the late esteemed writer ‘Crazy’ Mohan, with actor and Rajya Sabha member Kamal Haasan receiving the first copy. Another significant literary release was ‘Kalaignar Nadagangal,’ a collection of plays penned by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, edited by Murugesa Pandian, with CPI leader R. Mutharasan accepting the inaugural copy.
