Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin confirmed on Saturday, October 4, 2025, that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would begin its probe into the tragic Karur stampede. This action follows a direct order from the Madras High Court. The Chief Minister assured the public that the government is fully committed to uncovering the truth through this investigation, emphasizing that “Accountability will be fixed at every level.” He shared these updates in a post on X.
Mr. Stalin highlighted Tamil Nadu’s ambition to set a national example in preventing crowd-related incidents. “Tamil Nadu, which has often been a pioneer in India on many fronts, will also lead the nation in preventing crowd-related accidents,” he stated. To achieve this, extensive discussions are planned with experts, political party representatives, activists, and the public across the state. The goal is to create a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that could potentially serve as a benchmark for the entire country, not just Tamil Nadu.
Calling for unity, the Chief Minister urged against political finger-pointing regarding this “irreparable tragedy.” He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to find a lasting solution and welcomed all suggestions and contributions. “Every life is priceless. Let us unite to protect our people’s lives and ensure that such a great tragedy never happens again — neither in Tamil Nadu nor anywhere else in India,” Mr. Stalin appealed.
He reiterated that the Government of Tamil Nadu is approaching the Karur tragedy with extreme seriousness, diligently considering all directives and observations made by the High Court.
Expressing profound sorrow, Mr. Stalin concluded, “The tragedy in Karur has deeply shaken all of us. I am anguished seeing the tears of every family that has lost their loved ones.”
