On Saturday, Chittoor District Collector Sumit Kumar issued a clear directive to all Medical and Health department officials: achieve 100% registration of pregnant women across every Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the district.
During a comprehensive review meeting, the Collector underscored the urgency of this mandate, stating that all registrations must be finalized within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. He acknowledged an 80% success rate but stressed the importance of reaching the remaining 20%, highlighting its critical role in establishing a robust and efficient health administration.
Collector Kumar also implored field-level medical and paramedical personnel to diligently track high-risk and teenage pregnancies through continuous follow-up right up to delivery. This consistent monitoring is essential to ensure that all births occur in government hospitals. Furthermore, he emphasized the critical need to regularly monitor anaemia levels, issue unique IDs to all pregnant women, and meticulously register every newborn to guarantee timely vaccination schedules.
Addressing the concerningly low MR-1 and MR-2 vaccination coverage within Chittoor district, the Collector ordered officials to achieve a mandatory 100% coverage rate by the first week of October. He issued a stern warning, stating that any official found negligent in their duties would face strict disciplinary action.
