Chittoor District Collector Sumit Kumar recently emphasized that the fight against tuberculosis (TB) requires more than just medical treatment; it demands a strategic, multi-faceted approach focusing heavily on prevention.
During an event hosted by the Medical and Health Department, Collector Kumar personally distributed nutritional kits, each valued at ₹500, to 100 TB patients. He announced that all registered beneficiaries would continue to receive this essential food support monthly, with the initiative planned to extend until March 2026.
Mr. Kumar strongly encouraged patients to make the most of the available resources to ensure a speedy recovery. He also outlined common TB symptoms, stressing that persistent fever, chest pain, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, fatigue, general health decline, swelling, and blood in sputum are serious indicators that should prompt immediate referral to government hospitals for diagnosis and care.
Reassuring the public, he highlighted that highly effective treatments are readily available for TB, and patients should not be disheartened. “Early detection combined with a rigorous treatment regimen is crucial for halting the spread of the disease,” he stated. Furthermore, Sumit Kumar urged everyone to use the toll-free State TB elimination helpline, Nikshay Sampark (1800-11-6666), for any questions or concerns regarding tuberculosis.
The event saw the presence of key officials, including Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. DT. Sudha Rani, alongside other senior program officers and dedicated paramedical staff.
