In a stern warning issued on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi declared that criminal activities involving narcotics and child marriages would be met with an ‘iron hand’ across the district.
During an inspection at the Punganur urban police station, SP Dudi reviewed pending cases and stressed the urgent need for all sub-divisional police personnel to accelerate investigations, apprehend absconding suspects, and ensure timely filing of charge-sheets. He emphasized, ‘Investigating officers must leverage speed and technology to their fullest potential.’
The SP specifically targeted the pervasive ganja menace, announcing an uncompromising stance. He warned cultivators, transporters, and dealers of severe consequences and directed officials to conduct special operations to dismantle smuggling networks. Crucially, he mandated strict surveillance on shops within 100-500 meters of educational institutions, highlighting this as a vital measure to shield students from illegal narcotics and other dangerous influences.
Furthermore, Dudi mandated stringent enforcement against drunken driving and other traffic violations, which will be complemented by public awareness campaigns and immediate legal action against offenders.
Addressing the alarming prevalence of child marriages in certain areas, the SP emphasized its eradication as a top priority. He called for awareness camps to be organized in every vulnerable village, actively involving youth and local students. He underscored the pivotal role of women police in this effort. Additionally, he noted the necessity of public awareness drives on cybercrimes, fraudulent loan apps, sexual harassment prevention, and self-defense techniques.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Circle-Inspector B. Subbarayudu, Special Branch Inspector Suryanarayana, and other police officials from the Palamaner and Punganur sub-divisions.
