In a crucial operation, the Chittoor Urban Police successfully apprehended a 30-year-old man on Friday, suspected of carrying out a string of terrifying knife-point robberies. The accused specifically targeted vulnerable elderly couples and women in secluded parts of the area, leaving a trail of fear and loss.
Circle Inspector M. Maheshwar, from I-Town, addressed the media, revealing the suspect’s identity as R. Akhil, a resident of Kongareddypalli in Chittoor. Akhil was located and arrested in a forested region just behind PVKN College. The diligent special police team managed to recover two gold chains, collectively valued at approximately ₹1.5 lakh, along with a two-wheeler worth around ₹80,000, which is believed to have been used in the commission of these crimes.
Inspector Maheshwar further explained that the police had been receiving numerous complaints in recent weeks. These reports consistently described couples and women being stalked and robbed in isolated stretches across the town. Recognizing the severity and pattern of these incidents, Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi promptly established dedicated special teams, operating under the expert guidance of Deputy SP T. Sainath. After an extensive and thorough search operation, the relentless efforts of these teams led directly to the successful apprehension of the suspect. Superintendent Dudi extended his sincere commendation to the special party for their swift and decisive actions in bringing this robber to justice.
