Chittoor district and its surrounding regions experienced a relentless deluge late Sunday night, October 12, 2025, resulting in severe flooding across numerous low-lying communities. The intensity of the rainfall also caused a dramatic rise in the water levels of the Neeva river.
The heavy rains commenced around 10 p.m. and persisted through the early hours of Monday, October 13. This sustained downpour left many residential zones situated along the riverbanks completely submerged, with streets and alleys transforming into temporary waterways.
Official reports indicate that Chittoor itself recorded 42 mm of rain, while Gudipala bore the brunt with a staggering 80 mm. Adjacent mandals, including Tavanampalle, Irala, and Yadamarri, also reported sudden, intense bursts of precipitation, significantly contributing to the Neeva river’s swelling.
Within the Chittoor Municipal Corporation, areas such as Veeranbadra Colony, Indira Nagar, and Thotapalem were particularly hard-hit. Homes were inundated, and entire streets disappeared under floodwaters.
In response to the emergency, municipal and police rapid response teams promptly mobilized, deploying to the affected areas and safely relocating residents to temporary shelters. In Thotapalem, a rescue boat was crucially used to extract families stranded by the rising waters. Authorities have issued urgent appeals, advising all residents along the river to seek higher ground and to contact emergency services without delay if their safety is compromised.
