HYDERABAD
Exciting news for Telangana’s agricultural sector! A brand-new, state-of-the-art oil palm factory, located in Narmeta, Siddipet district, is on the cusp of its official opening. Following a successful trial run, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is expected to inaugurate the facility very soon, marking a significant milestone for the region.
During his recent inspection, Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao highlighted the factory’s advanced capabilities. He proudly stated that this unit incorporates cutting-edge technology, unmatched by any other facility in the country. This sophisticated infrastructure is projected to drive a substantial expansion in oil palm cultivation across Telangana in the coming years. The impressive project has been developed with an investment of ₹300 crore.
The Minister further elaborated on the multifaceted benefits for farmers. Beyond the lucrative sale of oil palm fruit bunches, cultivators can also generate additional income throughout the year by integrating inter-crops. The Narmeta factory is designed to be highly efficient, extracting oil not only from the fruit but also from its seeds. Furthermore, sustainability is key: the facility will generate its own power through a captive unit, utilizing waste products from the oil palm bunch processing, showcasing an innovative approach to resource management.
Farmers present at the site shared their concerns regarding delays in transport charge payments. In response, Minister Nageswara Rao encouraged them to explore growing valuable inter-crops like cocoa, nutmeg (jajikaya), macadamia nuts, and drumstick. These options can provide supplementary income, diversifying their revenue streams alongside the current attractive price of oil palm bunches, which stands at ₹19,107 per tonne.
Concluding his visit, the Minister assured that all remaining minor works at the factory would be swiftly completed, paving the way for the Chief Minister’s imminent inauguration.
