A terrifying incident unfolded in Chavakkad on Tuesday night as a sizable concrete block plummeted from the under-construction National Highway (NH) flyover at Manathala. This alarming event occurred while construction workers were engaged in building the overbridge’s sidewall, narrowly missing what could have been a devastating tragedy.
The heavy block plunged approximately 20 feet, landing on the eastern service road perilously close to the GHSS Manathala school. In an extraordinary stroke of luck, despite the dangerous fall, no one sustained any injuries. However, the unexpected debris did cause significant, albeit temporary, disruptions to traffic flow in the area.
Following the incident, Chavakkad police quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and initiate further action. Construction workers promptly moved to clear the fallen concrete block from the road. Local residents have since expressed their profound concern and anger, asserting that the incident was a direct result of negligence on the part of the construction crew, and calling for a thorough investigation into the safety measures in place.
