In a dramatic turn of events, an onion-laden lorry overturned on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) near Ambur town in Tirupattur early Tuesday morning, causing considerable disruption.
According to police reports, the truck was en route from Bengaluru, carrying a large consignment of onions destined for the Koyambedu Wholesale market in Chennai. However, around 5:30 AM, the driver inexplicably lost control of the vehicle, leading to its sudden capsize across the carriageway.
Eyewitnesses, including other motorists and passersby, quickly rushed to the scene to offer assistance. Interestingly, as soon as people began to gather, the lorry driver, realizing the situation, fled the spot and remains untraceable. Ambur Town police were promptly alerted and arrived to assess the accident site.
Emergency services worked swiftly to tow the overturned vehicle away and remove the enormous quantity of onions that had spilled across the highway. The incident led to significant traffic congestion, which was eventually cleared by the police, restoring normal flow. Authorities have registered a case and launched special teams to locate and apprehend the absconding driver as the investigation continues.
