A high-level central team recently visited Sabarimala, conducting thorough inspections of Sannidhanam, Marakkoottam, and Pampa Hilltop on Friday and Saturday. Their visit is a crucial step for the proposed Sabarimala ropeway project, which aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility for pilgrims.
The extensive survey focused on identifying suitable locations for ropeway tower installations, evaluating forest areas along the planned route, and assessing the number of trees that may need to be cut or partially removed. The much-anticipated final approval for this significant infrastructure project hinges on the comprehensive report compiled by this team. According to reliable official sources, the team is expected to submit their findings by October 15.
Key members of the inspection team included Mr. Johnson from the Wildlife Institute of India (Delhi), Mr. Shivkumar representing the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Ms. Harini Venugopal from the National Tiger Conservation Authority. Their expertise was complemented by the participation of officials from both the Kerala Forest Department and the Devaswom Board, ensuring a holistic assessment of the project’s environmental and logistical aspects.
