In a significant recognition of their outstanding contributions to scientific research, two distinguished scientists from the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) have been honored as 2024 Fellows of the Telangana Academy of Sciences. The prestigious accolades go to Dr. Labani Ray, a Senior Principal Scientist, and Dr. H.V.S. Satyanarayana, a Chief Scientist.
Dr. Labani Ray’s pioneering work led to the establishment of India’s sole Centre for Geothermal Energy Research (CGER). This state-of-the-art laboratory is crucial for precisely measuring rock thermal conductivity at various temperatures, which in turn allows for the creation of more accurate geothermal models of the Indian Lithosphere. Her dedication to understanding Earth’s thermal processes is paving the way for advancements in renewable energy sources.

Chief Scientist H.V.S. Satyanarayana
Meanwhile, Dr. H.V.S. Satyanarayana is celebrated for his pivotal role in setting up a crucial test and calibration center for seismic instruments. His leadership has been instrumental in numerous 2D/3D projects focused on resource exploration. Furthermore, Dr. Satyanarayana has significantly contributed to the establishment of extensive seismic networks across India, vital for continuous earthquake monitoring and comprehensive hazard assessment, as detailed in an official press release.
