The KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER)’s Kannada Balaga recently hosted a spectacular celebration for the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava in Belagavi. The event brought together students, dedicated teachers, and staff to honor Karnataka’s rich heritage.
N.S. Mahantashetti, KAHER’s officiating Vice-Chancellor and a former honorary president of the Kannada Balaga, graced the occasion as the chief guest. She commended the Balaga’s unwavering commitment to fostering awareness of the Kannada language among younger generations and encouraged their continued success. Ms. Mahantashetti was also honored for her decade-plus leadership within the Kannada Balaga.
V.M. Pattanshetti, Registrar of KLE University, delivered a heartfelt address on the profound legacy of Kannada’s linguistic heritage. He urged everyone to support the Kannada Balaga’s mission and actively contribute to its growth. V.D. Patil, Director of KLE New Hospital and Projects, also spoke, expressing his admiration for the diverse initiatives undertaken by the Balaga.
A striking highlight of the celebration was a student-created tableau, titled “Cancer or Life: May Your Choice Be Right.” This powerful display depicted the devastating effects of cancer on the human body and was paraded through the city as part of the Rajyotsava procession, effectively raising public awareness about cancer prevention and its associated health challenges.
Further enriching the cultural festivities, students from the Kannada Balaga showcased captivating dance performances that beautifully illustrated Karnataka’s vibrant culture, presented both at the main event and at various city locations. The talented teachers and students of the KLE School of Music added to the joyous atmosphere with a delightful rendition of Kannada songs.
The event was presided over by Rajesh S. Powar, Principal of JNMC and honorary president of the Kannada Balaga. Avinash Kavi, Chairman of the Kannada Balaga, delivered a welcoming speech and shared introductory remarks emphasizing the glory of Kannada, its people (Kannadigas), and the state of Karnataka.
