The National Statistics Office (NSO), specifically its Thiruvananthapuram Regional Office, recently partnered with Sree Narayana College in Kollam to host a significant event. This program marked the 75th milestone anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS), an initiative vital to India’s statistical landscape.
Dubbed ‘STAT’OSPHERE 2025’, the day’s focus revolved around the impactful theme: ‘Role of National Sample Survey in the Nation’s Progress and Economic Development.’ The celebration wasn’t just about discussions; it was a dynamic blend of activities designed to engage and inform. Attendees participated in an insightful seminar, contributed to a symbolic plantation drive, and even witnessed an NSO-themed flash mob. These diverse elements collectively aimed to underscore the profound importance of accurate statistics in shaping national policies and driving development across the country.
The commemorative program was officially launched by Sunitha Bhaskar, the additional director general of the Field Operation Division, New Delhi. A particularly engaging segment was a dedicated panel discussion titled ‘Role of Citizens in Sample Surveys.’ This discussion highlighted a crucial point: the active participation and cooperation of the public are indispensable for gathering reliable statistical data, which, in turn, is fundamental for effective socio-economic planning in India.
Prominent figures who addressed the gathering included S.V. Manoj, Principal of S.N. College, Kollam, and Vibeesh E.M., the deputy director general of the NSO’s Kerala and Lakshadweep Region, Thiruvananthapuram, among other esteemed speakers.
