Police in Kannur have significantly stepped up their investigation into a sophisticated cheating attempt during a Public Service Commission (PSC) examination. The incident, which unfolded at Payyambalam Girls Higher Secondary School on Saturday afternoon, involved a candidate using advanced electronic devices.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old P. Muhammed Sahad from Peralassery, Kannur, was caught by a vigilant PSC squad. Confidential information had sparked suspicion, leading to the dramatic apprehension. Sahad had ingeniously concealed a miniature camera near his shirt collar to photograph the question paper, transmitting it to external accomplices. In return, he received answers wirelessly through an earphone linked to his mobile phone.
Upon detection, Sahad reportedly attempted to flee but was swiftly intercepted and detained by a police team led by Kannur Town Inspector Sreejith Koderi. His high-tech cheating arsenal, including the mobile phone, hidden camera, and earphones, was immediately confiscated.
The ongoing investigation has confirmed the involvement of individuals assisting Sahad from outside the examination hall, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them. The PSC has also launched its own comprehensive inquiry into all examinations previously attended by Sahad, with particular scrutiny on tests held on August 30. As a direct consequence of his actions, the PSC has declared its intention to permanently debar him from all future public service examinations.
Police officials have stated that Sahad will undergo extensive questioning before being formally presented before the Kannur court.
