The Republican Party of India (Athawale), or RPI(A), is making a strong appeal for Wadi Junction, a pivotal railway hub situated approximately 45 kilometers from Kalaburagi, to be officially renamed in tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the revered chief architect of India’s Constitution.
During a press conference held on Wednesday, Abhishek Chakravarthy, the RPI(A) district youth president, highlighted the historical significance of Dr. Ambedkar’s visit to Wadi town. He noted that Dr. Ambedkar passed through Wadi on April 27, 1945, while en route from Mumbai to Hyderabad. During his stay, Dr. Ambedkar took the time to engage with local residents, discussing community issues before resuming his journey the following day.
Chakravarthy emphasized the importance of this historical connection, urging the State government to formally recommend to the Central government that Wadi Junction be designated as ‘Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Railway Station.’ Additionally, he called upon local district authorities to name the main entrance arch of Wadi town ‘Bheema Pada Sparsha Bhoomi,’ translating to ‘Land Touched by Bhim,’ further honoring Ambedkar’s legacy.
Chakravarthy concluded with a clear warning: if their demands are not met promptly, the RPI(A) will be compelled to escalate its protest and intensify the agitation until their requests are fulfilled.
