The Union cabinet on Tuesday approved the terms of reference (ToR) for the 8th Pay Commission. This commission will be responsible for revising the salary structure for around 50 lakh central government employees.
Earlier in January, the Cabinet had given its approval to establish the 8th Pay Commission, with the objective of reviewing the salaries of central government employees and the allowances for about 69 lakh pensioners.
During a cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that the terms of reference have been finalized following extensive consultations with various ministries, state governments, and the staff side of the joint consultative machinery.
The commission is expected to present its recommendations within an 18-month timeframe.
