In a horrifying incident that unfolded in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a law student suffered life-altering injuries, including a split abdomen and severed fingers, after a heated argument with a medical shop owner escalated into extreme violence. Police confirmed the shocking details on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Authorities have already apprehended three individuals, including the proprietor of the pharmacy, in connection with the attack, which occurred in the Rawatpur area at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The search for a fourth assailant is currently ongoing.
The victim, 22-year-old Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a first-year LLB student residing in Keshavpuram, visited the local pharmacy when a disagreement erupted with the owner, Amar Singh Chauhan, reportedly over the price of medication.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Ranjeet Kumar, Mr. Chauhan, alongside his brother Vijay Singh, and two accomplices, Prince Srivastava and Nikhil Tiwari, allegedly launched a brutal assault on Chandel.
Wielding a chopper, the attackers inflicted severe wounds upon the student’s head and abdomen. The ferocity of the assault left his stomach gaping open and two of his fingers cruelly amputated, the ACP stated.
Drenched in blood, Mr. Chandel collapsed on the street as his attackers fled the scene. Concerned locals quickly rushed to his aid.
His family desperately intervened, using a cloth to bind his exposed intestines before transporting him to a hospital. An anonymous official revealed that four hospitals tragically refused admission due to the severity of his condition.
Ultimately, the young man was admitted to Regency Hospital, where doctors performed a critical two-hour surgery. He also required 14 stitches to his head, as confirmed by the ACP.
Adding to the family’s ordeal, Mr. Chandel’s mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, alleged that the accused leveraged their ‘connections with the police’ to falsely register an extortion case against her and her critically injured son on the very night of the attack.
She expressed her anguish, stating, “Instead of arresting those responsible for this murderous assault, the police filed a case against my son, who is fighting for his life.”
ACP Kumar verified that Chauhan, Singh, and Tiwari have been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder.
The fourth suspect, Prince Srivastava, remains at large, and law enforcement efforts are concentrated on tracking him down.
Mr. Kumar clarified that while an extortion FIR was initially lodged against Mr. Chandel based on Mr. Chauhan’s complaint, a new case reflecting the brutal reality of the assault was promptly registered once the true events came to light.
