A deeply disturbing incident of moral policing unfolded on Saturday in Indiranagar, Kanakapura. A group of men stands accused of brutally assaulting a female relative and a man from a different community, culminating in the public act of partially shaving their heads.
Prompt action by law enforcement saw police quickly arrive at the scene, bringing the escalating situation under control. Five of the seven individuals allegedly involved have been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The female victim, a mother, had been married for 15 years. She reportedly separated from her husband six months prior to the incident, following his discovery of her alleged relationship with a fisherman from a different community.
The sequence of events leading to the assault began on Friday when family members allegedly located the woman at the fisherman’s residence. The couple was then forcibly dragged onto the street, subjected to a physical attack with slippers, and had their heads partially shaved.
Upon receiving information about the disturbing incident, police swiftly responded, apprehending five men. Women from the involved families were also questioned, and their statements have been officially recorded.
Both victims received immediate medical attention at a local hospital. The woman has since been transferred to a rehabilitation center to receive counseling and support. Authorities have formally recorded statements from both individuals and registered two separate cases against the perpetrators.
In an effort to prevent further unrest and maintain public peace, additional police forces have been deployed in the area. Furthermore, a peace meeting was convened, involving both the affected families and key community members.
