The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced its full support for the upcoming BC (Backward Classes) bandh scheduled for October 18. This protest, organized by various BC associations, aims to challenge the Telangana High Court’s recent decision to halt Government Order (G.O.) 9, which would have provided a 42% reservation for BCs in local body elections.
During a meeting held at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, alongside Rajya Sabha MP R. Krishnaiah and other prominent BC leaders, emphasized the critical need for a unified effort to secure constitutional recognition for Backward Classes reservations. Rama Rao called upon both the BJP and Congress parties to prioritize social justice over political differences, suggesting that the issue could be swiftly resolved if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi were to jointly endorse it.
He further affirmed that all four BRS Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament would enthusiastically vote in favor of any legislative measure in Parliament designed to guarantee these crucial reservations.
The former Minister also accused the Congress government of failing to implement a dedicated BC sub-plan. He underscored the importance of escalating the struggle for BC rights and pledged the BRS’s unwavering support to the Backward Classes community until their demands for justice are met.
