BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of continuously spreading misinformation about the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation issue, despite the Central government having already provided clear explanations on the matter.
Speaking to reporters in Haveri on Saturday, Mr. Bommai suggested that Mr. Siddaramaiah is attempting to normalize his inaccurate statements on GST compensation by repeating them incessantly, likening it to the proverb of a lie becoming truth when told a hundred times.
Challenging Mr. Siddaramaiah’s assertion of ₹11,000 crore in outstanding dues from the Centre, Mr. Bommai demanded concrete evidence to substantiate what he termed a false claim.
“Under the 15th Finance Commission, the State has already received over ₹1 lakh crore since 2014. Approximately ₹3,000 crore is disbursed annually at the close of each fiscal year. Yet, Mr. Siddaramaiah conveniently omits any mention of these significant funds that the Centre has already released,” Mr. Bommai stated.
Regarding the recent stone-throwing incident in Belagavi, he alleged that a conspiracy by certain groups is underway to create anarchy in the country, asserting that such factions are receiving support from vested interests.
Following similar disturbances in Uttar Pradesh and Davangere, the BJP had called for stringent measures to prevent recurrences. However, Mr. Bommai highlighted that fresh incidents in Mandya and Maddur demonstrate a breakdown of law and order in Karnataka, indicating a pervasive lack of respect for legal authority among the populace.
He strongly urged the Home Minister to take decisive action against all individuals implicated in these disruptive acts.
The former Chief Minister also advised that instead of passively waiting for funds from the Centre and shifting blame, the State government should immediately release compensation to farmers in need.
