Mumbai’s political landscape is abuzz with the recent announcement from the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) regarding the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls. A lottery to finalize ward reservations for these significant civic elections will take place on November 11.
According to the detailed schedule released late on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the results of this lottery will be promptly submitted to the SEC for their official approval. These BMC elections are part of a larger electoral process, encompassing 29 civic bodies across Maharashtra, all slated for completion by January 2026. The BMC itself is a powerful 227-member body, making these reservations a critical step.
Following the lottery, citizens will be given an important opportunity to participate in the democratic process. They can submit any objections or suggestions regarding the ward reservations between November 14 and November 20. The BMC commissioner is then tasked with reviewing and hearing all received feedback from November 21 to November 27, before making a final decision. The SEC confirmed that the definitive list of ward reservations will be officially published on November 28.
Earlier in the process, the exact number of reserved wards will be determined and presented to the SEC between October 30 and November 3, 2025. This will be followed by the official notification for the ward reservation lottery, which the poll body stated would be issued on November 6.
