Amidst ongoing calls for a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and restrictions on its activities within government premises, Karnataka BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra declared on Wednesday that such a prohibition is simply not feasible.
Addressing the media in Chitradurga, Mr. Vijayendra reminded reporters of a past instance where a Congress government at the Centre had attempted to ban the RSS, only to be forced to revoke it. He highlighted that this occurred when the BJP held a significantly weaker position nationally. “Today,” he stated, “the BJP boasts a a powerful presence across the country, led by the formidable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and governs numerous states. Given this reality, any talk of banning the RSS borders on sheer foolishness.”
He further accused the Congress government of initiating this debate as a deliberate tactic to sidetrack the public from its alleged administrative missteps and failures on various crucial fronts.
In a direct jab at RDPR and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, who claimed to have received threat calls after advocating for a ban on RSS activities on government land, Mr. Vijayendra suggested that the minister was merely “seeking publicity” through these allegations.
