The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Shivamogga staged a vigorous protest on Wednesday at Ashoka Circle, directly challenging the Karnataka Congress government. Their primary accusations centered on the state’s alleged neglect of development initiatives and its failure to adequately address the rampant issue of potholes plaguing the city’s roads.
Under the guidance of BJP MLA S.N. Channabasappa, party members formed a human chain, effectively bringing traffic to a standstill for over thirty minutes at one of Shivamogga’s busiest intersections. This action led to widespread traffic jams, impacting commuters across various parts of the city.
Throughout the demonstration, protesters passionately chanted slogans, directly criticizing the Congress government. They vehemently alleged that the current administration was embroiled in corruption and deliberately overlooking essential development projects for the region.
Speaking to the assembled crowd, Mr. Channabasappa asserted that the state government’s financial mismanagement was the root cause of its inability to fix potholes statewide and fund other vital development works. He further accused the Congress government of interfering with the traditional Ganesha festival celebrations, adding another layer to their grievances.
However, the protest wasn’t without its own detractors. Frustrated motorists, caught in the gridlock, confronted the BJP workers, urging them to select an alternative protest venue that would not inconvenience the general public.
