The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) renewed its criticism of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The party expressed strong disapproval of comments Gandhi reportedly made at a university in Colombia, labeling them as ‘anti-India’.
During a press conference, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia leveled accusations against Gandhi, stating he was ‘defaming India on foreign soil.’ Bhatia further alleged that, according to an old newspaper report, the Congress leader was ‘partying until 4 a.m. following the devastating 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.’
Bhatia also recalled recent statements from former Union Ministers P. Chidambaram and Manish Tewari, noting that after the 2008 Mumbai terror strike, the Congress-led UPA government allegedly refrained from taking strong action against Pakistan. He claimed this inaction was due to ‘U.S. pressure’ and accused the then-government of permitting foreign interference in India’s domestic matters.
In light of these ‘revelations’ by Chidambaram, Bhatia called upon both Rahul Gandhi and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi to provide a clarification.
