The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Officer of Bihar against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The complaint stems from remarks made by Gandhi during a rally in Muzaffarpur, where he allegedly made ‘dance remarks’ about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports, the BJP has deemed these comments “highly derogatory, indecent, and personal” towards the Prime Minister.
During the rally, Rahul Gandhi stated that Prime Minister Modi would “dance for votes” and also commented on the political influence of the BJP in Bihar. The BJP’s complaint asserts that Gandhi’s statements are not only disrespectful to the Prime Minister’s office but also cross the boundaries of decency and democratic discourse. The party argued that such personal attacks are intended to insult the dignity of India’s highest constitutional office.
The BJP further stated that Gandhi’s remarks constitute personal vilification and violate the spirit and letter of the Model Code of Conduct. In their complaint, the party demanded that the Election Commission take immediate and exemplary action against Rahul Gandhi. They also urged the poll body to issue a show-cause notice and request an unconditional public apology from the Congress MP. Additionally, the BJP requested that Gandhi be barred from campaigning for a specified period to maintain democratic decorum and deter similar ‘personal vilification’ in future elections.
