The Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary, Binoy Viswam, has voiced deep concern over a troubling political shift gaining ground in Kerala. He highlighted a dangerous new style of politics that disregards the dignity of women actively participating in social, cultural, and political spheres.
In a statement released on Friday, September 19, 2025, Mr. Viswam emphasized that this regressive political approach directly challenges Kerala’s long-standing enlightened views on women’s dignity and gender equality – principles meticulously nurtured through decades of progressive struggles.
He confidently asserted that the women of Kerala, who have steadfastly fought for their right to stand as equals alongside men in every field, will remain unperturbed by these sustained assaults.
Mr. Viswam attributed these burgeoning political forces and their backward policies to an outdated patriarchal mindset, a lingering remnant of feudalism. Furthermore, he noted their disconcerting tendency to exploit new social media platforms and advancements in science and technology to propagate hatred and misogyny against women.
He issued a stark caution: if the State’s social, cultural, and political movements do not unite to defeat this attempt to regress public consciousness into darker times, the renaissance values that Kerala has diligently upheld will suffer profound damage.
The Communist Party, he concluded, is ready to collaborate with all like-minded groups to confront this critical situation and to foster a democratic culture that promotes respectful and healthy gender relations.
