Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar recently declared the successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, an extensive exercise he hailed as having “purified” the state’s voter list for the first time in 22 years. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, which marked the end of his crucial two-day visit, Kumar highlighted the meticulous efforts involved.
With Assembly elections in Bihar anticipated to be announced in the near future, the completion of this revision is a significant step. Commissioner Kumar elaborated on the massive scale of the operation, stating, “An Electoral Registration Officer was deployed in each of Bihar’s 243 constituencies. These officers received vital assistance from an impressive force of 90,207 Booth Level Officers, all working together to meticulously update and cleanse the voter database.”
This initiative is particularly noteworthy as Bihar’s electoral rolls had not undergone such an intensive revision since 2003. During his visit, CEC Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by fellow Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sindhu and Vivek Joshi, engaged in comprehensive discussions with various political parties and conducted thorough reviews of the state’s preparedness for the upcoming polls, ensuring a fair and accurate democratic process.
