In a significant political development, Mishri Lal Yadav, a prominent MLA from Bihar, publicly announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, October 11, 2025. During a press conference, he sharply criticized the party, alleging that Dalits and other marginalized communities were not receiving fair treatment or due recognition within its structure.
Mr. Yadav, who represents the Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga district, stated his intention to formally submit his resignation to the BJP’s State unit president, Dilip Jaiswal.
While the BJP has not yet issued an official response, political observers suggest that Mr. Yadav’s discontent stems from strong indications that he might be denied a party ticket for the upcoming elections. Rumors have circulated that the BJP was considering fielding popular singer Maithili Thakur from the Alinagar constituency instead.
Reflecting on his political journey, Mr. Yadav highlighted his past electoral success, stating, “I was the first to secure victory for the NDA in Alinagar. Previously, numerous candidates, despite their considerable financial resources and influence, had failed to win this seat.” He had previously contested and won the 2020 elections under the banner of the Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP).
The VIP, led by Mukesh Sahni, a former Bollywood set designer turned politician, had its alliance with the NDA terminated in 2022. This followed the BJP’s move to remove Sahni from the Nitish Kumar cabinet. Subsequently, all four VIP MLAs, including Mr. Yadav, joined the BJP.
Although Mr. Yadav has not yet disclosed his next political affiliation, it is widely believed that he is actively engaging in discussions with the opposition INDIA bloc, which is spearheaded by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
