In a tense turn of events on Monday, a protest by job aspirants in Patna, Bihar, escalated into a confrontation with police. The demonstrators, seeking clarity on the long-awaited constable recruitment test, broke through security barricades, leading to police deploying baton charges to disperse the crowd.
Scores of frustrated job seekers converged near the busy Dak Bunglow crossing, carrying signs and chanting slogans directed at the government. Their primary demand was straightforward: an immediate announcement regarding the total number of vacancies and the examination schedule for constable positions within the Bihar Police force.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kartikeya K. Sharma, explained the situation to reporters, stating, “A large number of protesters gathered at Dak Bunglow crossing, causing significant disruption to traffic. They then proceeded to breach police barricades, advancing towards the restricted area near the Kotwali Police station.”
He further elaborated on the police response: “We repeatedly urged them to clear the area due to the immense traffic congestion. When these appeals were ignored, officers were compelled to use baton charges to break up the gathering.”
According to the job aspirants present, numerous individuals sustained injuries during the police action.
