The Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) has named Chanchal Singh as its candidate for the Raghopur assembly seat in Bihar, putting an end to speculation about a potential direct contest between political strategist Prashant Kishor and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Uday Singh, the national president of JSP, officially handed over the party’s symbol to Chanchal Singh for Raghopur, a significant constituency in Vaishali district. Historically, the RJD has maintained a strong hold on this seat, having won it in almost every election since 1998, with a single exception in 2010.
The Jan Suraaj Party has committed to contesting all 243 seats in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. To date, the party has released two lists of candidates, featuring 51 candidates on October 10 and an additional 65 on October 13.
Interestingly, unlike its previous candidate list announcements held at crowded press conferences, the party’s latest selections were reportedly made with less media fanfare. This shift in approach was noted by PTI.
The elections for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly are slated for November 6 and November 11, with the vote counting scheduled for November 14.
