As the political landscape of Bihar heats up with major parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United), and their allies announcing candidate lists for the upcoming assembly elections, the emotional toll on ticket aspirants is becoming apparent. In a poignant display of disappointment, Abhay Kumar Singh, a leader from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), was seen breaking down on camera after being denied the ticket for the Morwa constituency in Samastipur district.
The widely shared video captures a distraught Singh lamenting what he perceives as favouritism and corruption in the ticket allocation process. “Someone paid more money than me, that’s why he got the ticket. I am quitting politics now,” he declared through his tears, a statement that has quickly fueled a political conversation across Bihar, raising questions about the fairness of candidate selection within the NDA alliance.
Singh, who had previously contested from Morwa on an LJP(R) ticket in the 2020 Bihar assembly elections, had hoped to secure the nomination again. However, the seat’s allocation within the NDA’s seat-sharing agreement, which granted 29 seats to Chirag Paswan’s party, saw Morwa initially designated for LJP(R). Following reported objections from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Morwa seat was subsequently transferred to the JD(U), with former MLA Vidyasagar Nishad named as the candidate.
Deeply affected by this turn of events, Singh took to Facebook Live to express his profound disappointment, announcing his intention to step away from politics. He conveyed to his supporters that he felt betrayed and no longer wished to be part of the political arena.
The ruling NDA has finalized its seat distribution, with the BJP and JD(U) each contesting 101 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will field candidates in 29 constituencies, while the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will each contest six seats. Polling for the 243-seat assembly is slated for November 6 and November 11, with the results to be announced on November 14.
