Bengaluru’s J.C. Road is set to see significant improvements, with Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao personally overseeing the swift completion of the ongoing white-topping work. His directive, issued on Thursday, emphasizes the need to fast-track the project to ensure traffic flows smoothly for commuters as soon as possible.
During a recent inspection on Wednesday, Mr. Rao meticulously reviewed the 1-kilometer stretch of J.C. Road, spanning from Minerva Circle to Town Hall, where the white-topping efforts are concentrated. He noted that while one half of the road is currently undergoing construction, the other half remains open to facilitate vehicular movement. The Chief Commissioner urged engineers to complete the remaining work without any further delays.
Beyond just the road surface, Mr. Rao also stressed the importance of maintaining proper road dimensions. He mandated that the road width must be a consistent 15 meters, which includes buffer zones, and that pedestrian sidewalks on both sides should be at least 2.5 meters wide to ensure safety and accessibility.
Comprehensive infrastructure upgrades are also a part of this project. New storm-water drains, utilizing robust 1,000 mm RCC NP-3 pipes, are being installed along both sides of the stretch to mitigate flooding. Additionally, dedicated underground ducts are being laid: three 200 mm ducts for power cables and two 100 mm ducts for OFC lines. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is also leveraging this opportunity to install new underground sewer and drinking water pipelines.
This critical infrastructure project was officially handed over to B-SMILE on September 2. B.S. Prahllad, the Technical Director of B-SMILE, confirmed that one section of the road is targeted for completion and will be opened to traffic by September 30. The remaining portion of the project is expected to be finalized by October 31, bringing much-needed relief and improved connectivity to the area.
