A disturbing incident of alleged corporal punishment has surfaced in Bengaluru, where a Class 9 student from a private school in Sunkadakatte was reportedly beaten with a PVC pipe by the principal and teachers. The student was also locked in a room, allegedly for being absent for two days.
The distressing event took place on October 14. Prompt action followed a complaint filed by the boy’s mother, Divya Shankar, the very next day. An FIR was promptly registered against the principal and two teachers, invoking sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, alongside charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt (Section 118) and criminal intimidation (Section 315) for further investigation.
According to the mother’s complaint, her son had been a student at St. Mary’s Public School for three years, and all fees were paid regularly.
The named accused – Principal Rakesh Kumar, teacher Chandrika, and Vijay Kumar (who serves as both the school secretary and a teacher) – were reportedly infuriated by the student’s two-day absence. In what they allegedly termed ‘discipline,’ they used a plastic pipe to assault the boy. Adding to the ordeal, the student was then locked alone in a room for several hours, leaving him with significant physical and mental trauma.
Upon discovering bruises across their son’s body, the parents immediately sought medical attention for him after learning the full extent of what transpired.
When confronted by the parents, the school management allegedly remained unrepentant, asserting their actions with a defiant statement: “This is how we discipline in our school. If you don’t like it, take the Transfer Certificate (TC) and leave.”
Authorities have since issued notices to the accused individuals, requiring their appearance for questioning. The police have also duly informed the education department about this serious incident.
